A MAN assaulted two police officers after punching his own brother on the day of his grandfather's funeral, a court heard.

CCTV footage, shown to Worcester magistrates, showed Lee Minton with his shirt covered in blood.

Minton, 22, of Ransome Avenue, was seen with his arm around his brother, who had blood on his face, as they walked down Friar Street.

The court then saw his mother turn up in a car and try to persuade them to get in before the police arrived and the assaults on the officers took place.

The incident happened at around 12.20am on Sunday, January 13.

Minton admitted causing harassment, alarm and distressing, two counts of assaulting police officers and also resisting and obstucting a constable in the execution of his duty when he appeared in court on Friday.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said when police tried to arrest Minton one police officer was pushed, and another officer was grabbed around the neck.

In mitigation Paul Stanley said Lee had been out drinking for some time in town before his brother Christopher joined him.

"An argument takes place at the pub they were in," he said. "Emotions are running high due to the recent death of their grandfather.
"His funeral was to take place later that day.

The brothers had an argument. The blood on Lee Minton's shirt was his brother's. He punched him in the lip."

Mr Stanley added it was a "sad" situation and Minton had not been in trouble before.

Chairman of the Magistrates Nicola Phillips said they took attacks on officers very seriously.

Minton was fined £400 for the two assaults, £50 for obstructing a police officer, a total of £125 was awarded to the officers, £60 costs and victims surcharge of £15.
