A councillor’s request to apologise for the Jim Davidson fiasco has been ignored.
Evesham Town councillor Julie Haines wrote to the town clerk, asking for a motion to apologise to Evesham Live to be added to the agenda for next week’s full council meeting.
This comes after councillors were left to debate the upcoming show of the controversial comedian at January’s meeting, which cllr Haines labelled a “nonsense subject”.
She said: “I was appalled at the argument that broke out about whether or not Evesham Town Council should be going ahead with Evesham Live's booking at the town hall.
“At the meeting in January I said I wanted the Council to apologise for the upset that we had caused.
“Jim Davidson is playing in Evesham this month, so that seemed a more fitting time to have the issue of an apology raised.”
Cllr Haines says that the clerk, Francesca Pridding, responded to her request by stating that the council has no need to apologise as the decision to add the motion to the agenda was made by herself, and not the council.
As such, cllr Haines is now calling for the clerk to issue an apology herself and wants a new motion put forward.
“The clerk admits to putting the item on the January agenda herself of her own volition and extrapolates that the Town Council cannot apologise because it wasn't the councillors that put it on the agenda.
Ms Pridding has not been available for comment however the Mayor of Evesham, Sue Amor, is happy with the clerk’s decision not to include Cllr Haines' motion.
She said: “It is the job of every town clerk in The United Kingdom to produce the agenda.
“I will be leaving our extremely capable town clerk to do her job.”
The full council will meet on Monday, March 14, two days after Mr Davidson’s sold-out show at the Town Hall.
