POLICE made four arrests during today's FA Cup match between Hereford United and Cardiff City football clubs, but were pleased with the way fans behaved.
A history of trouble between the two sides meant Hereford police had a highly visible presence in and around Edgar Street on Sunday, with more than 100 officers on duty including dog handlers and officers trained in public order duties.
But two hours after the game finished police officers were packing up and had been stood down from their duties.
The four arrests were made for public order offences, and police were pleased with how the day had gone.
Nearly 7,000 supporters, including 1,500 Cardiff City fans, filed into the stadium to watch the game, which finished with a final score of Hereford 1 - 2 Cardiff.
Prior to the game Chief Inspector Shane Hancock urged fans to have an enjoyable but trouble free time and vowed not to tolerate anti-social behaviour.
"The message to them is simple - we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour as it not only spoils the atmosphere for the genuine fans, but also for the residents in the area around the ground and members of the public using the city centre," he said before the game.
