FLOOD barriers in Worcester were taken down today but the barriers in Upton-upon-Severn will remain up over the weekend.

The barriers in Hylton Road, Worcester, were erected on Friday, January 11, and today the Environment Agency closed the road between 10am and 3pm so they could dismantle them.

A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency said the Diglis gauge today was 4.1m and it had peaked at 4.7m on Wednesday, January 23.

The Worcester gauge earlier today was measuring 4.13m having peaked on Wednesday at 5.39m, and they are expecting river levels to continue to drop.

In Upton-upon-Severn, despite the river level falling from 5.1m on Wednesday to 4.58m yesterday, flood barriers will remain up over the weekend.

There is still a flood warning on the Severn between Worcester and Tewkesbury and a flood warning from Bevere to Powick including Worcester.

Worcester News weatherman Paul Damari said we can expect the dry spell we have seen this week to continue for the next five to seven days.

"We have had a relatively dry week which is good news and has been beneficial, and this is likely to continue for the next five or seven days at least," he said.

"I do not think we have got any significant rain coming through in the next period."

Mr Damari also expects the mild spell to continue, although the breeze will make people feel chilly he said.
