YOUNG people learned about sex, drugs, pregnancy and relationships during a course designed to help them make the right choices.

Youngsters from Worcester, Evesham, Droitwich, Worcester and Kidderminster attended an awareness day at Malvern Youth Centre.

They took part in the interactive Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) resource, L8r', piloted in youth centres last year.

The interactive resource, which was commissioned for use in the county by the Worcestershire Teenage Pregnancy Partnership, uses drama, and through DVD and the web, gives young people the opportunity to view and debate the lives and decisions of six young fictional characters.

A range of activities were also organised on the day and Hia8tus, who produce the series, organised role-play scenarios, as well as a live link-up with an actress from the show which gave the young people the opportunity to ask her questions.

The young people also developed storyboards for the second series of the drama and fed back to the production company what issues it should cover.

Worcestershire Teenage Pregnancy Strategy is a ten-year programme to address under 18 conceptions in the county, and to tackle social exclusion among young parents and their families.

The strategy aims to reduce conception rates in under 18s by 50 per cent by 2010.
