PEOPLE travelling in the city - whether on foot or by vehicle - are being urged to adhere to police safety advice.

Mike Digger, traffic management adviser for South Worcestershire Police, said: "If a road is closed, has barriers blocking access or any representatives from the police or other authorities advise not to enter an area, we would urge people to act on of that advice.

"Those measures are in place for a reason and are there for the safety of everyone. Water levels can be deceiving and there can be many hidden dangers in floodwater.

"Therefore, we would ask people not to enter floodwater, or any areas closed to the public, to avoid putting their own safety at risk as well as unnecessary pressure on the emergency services."

Water levels are rising slowly in Worcester and are expected to peak some time later this afternoon.

Hylton Road currently remains open to traffic but this is being regularly monitored as levels increase.

Grandstand Road, leading to Sabrina Bridge and the racecourse, is currently closed to traffic.
