DRIVERS are being warned that Hylton Road in Worcester could be closed.

As water from the river Severn continues to rise, the surface of Hylton Road in St John's becomes more water logged. Water is now gushing out of drains and slowing traffic.

Worcestershire County Council is keeping a close eye on the situation. The authority has already closed one lane near to the dis-used Pump House.

A spokesman for the council said: "Yesterday it looked as though we might have to close Hylton Road, Tybridge Street and North Quay, but they are not as affected as we expected they'd be last night.

"However, with water levels not due to peak until lunchtime and the situation changing all the time, we are monitoring it closely."

The river is due to peak this afternoon and is expected to reach between 5.35 metres and 5.45 metres.
