A WORCESTERSHIRE venue has been hit with a one-star food hygiene rating from health inspectors.
The Admiral Rodney at Berrow Green pub and restaurant was inspected by Food Standards Agency (FSA) officers on December 17.
The rating means that major improvements are necessary, according to the FSA a business will receive a one star rating if they score between 45 and 50 points.
A report into the venue in Martley, near Worcester, reveals that inspectors found "major improvement' was necessary in the management of food safety.
This key category looks at the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
The report said the pub's standards in hygienic food handling were considered good. This category is focused on the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene.
In the category of hygienic food handling the pub was rated as generally satisfactory. This category considers the hygienic handling of food including preparation including cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.
A spokesman for Admiral Rodney said: "We ordered a re-rating immediately after the previous inspection.
"It appears that the management could not access some necessary paperwork which led to a “major improvement necessary” rating in the confidence in management category.
"We made immediate changes to the management structure of the Admiral Rodney and have subsequently used consultants to confirm that any recommendations relating to record keeping and paperwork have now been implemented. Based on our consultants’ feedback, we are confident that the re-rating will result in a score of good or excellent."
In receiving the rating the pub joins the growing list of city one star rated food businesses which includes Portobello Inn in St John's, Age UK Worcester And District Lunch Club in Bilford Court, Your’s Pizza Bite/Little India in Ronkswood Hill, Lifestyle Express in Kilbury Drive, Happy Taste in Orchard Street and O Nosso Cafe in London Road.
No business in Worcester has zero stars, the lowest rating.
Each food business must display their FSA information on their venue and online.
If managers disagree with a rating, or believe their business has been upgraded since receiving the rating listed on the FSA website, food.gov.uk, they should contact the FSA directly.
All information published is based on results on the FSA website, food.gov.uk, and is correct as of January 14, 2022, with inspections listed as the latest carried out.
