PEOPLE are being warned not to hand over their money to charity collectors without seeing any ID.
The warning comes after a report of bogus callers asking for a donation to Droitwich Boxing Club.
The owner of an address in Westlands, Droitwich, contacted police after a teenager came to the door asking for money at about 2.15pm on Sunday.
The homeowner suspected the young man was not a legitimate collector and did not hand over any money. The offender is described as being about 18-years-old, 5ft 9ins and of thin build. He was wearing trousers and a beige top.
Local police officer for Droitwich west, PC Julie Liddington, said: "We commend the resident who contacted us for checking for ID and then refusing to give the offender any money."
Police received seven reports of two teenagers acting suspiciously and knocking on doors in the town in November. The pair were asking for sponsorship for football and boxing clubs as well as cancer charities but had no proper identification.
Officers checked with the various clubs and charities and they confirmed there were no authorised charity collections in the area on their behalf.
Areas targeted by the youths between Friday, November 9, and Tuesday, November 27, included Chorley Road, Nuffield Drive, The Parklands, Honeymans Gardens, Vernon Grove, Stouton Croft and Shepherds Hill.
The youths have been described as around 15 to 17-years-old, one often wearing a cream hoodie, and both wearing various beanie caps.
Anyone with information, or who has had a visit from a suspicious charity collector, should call Droitwich police on 08457 444888 and ask for PC Liddington. Information can be given anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
