A TEENAGE girl who claimed that a man tried to entice her into a green Land-Rover as she walked home in Worcester is being sought by police.

The driver sounded his horn to attract the girl's attention while she was walking home near Newtown Hospital on Saturday.

He then got out of the vehicle and spoke to the girl. But she pretended that she lived in a near-by house in Middles Avenue, Lyppard Hanford, to get away and told the male occupant at the address what had happened.

The householder later walked with her to near to where she said she really lived - near the doctors' surgery at the rear of the Lyppards area - but she did not reveal her exact address and has not reported the incident to police.

The girl - white, aged approximately 13, with dark, shoulder-length hair in a pony-tail - said she would not tell her parents about the incident because she was worried about their reaction.

A police spokesman said: "We have a double concern over this incident.

"Firstly that a total stranger has made a determined attempt to persuade a young girl to get into his vehicle.

"Secondly, while commending her quick-thinking in seeking help, we are concerned that such a serious incident has not yet been reported to us by the girl or her parents."

The incident is believed to have begun some time between approximately 6.30pm and 7pm.

"As well as asking for the girl to come forward - hopefully with the support of her parents - we would also like to hear from anyone who believes they may have seen something of the original incident," the spokesman added.

"No matter how un-important they may think it to be, we want to hear what they have to say."
