The New Year promises a fresh start with many setting themselves resolutions of getting more exercise or making dietary changes.
However this typically comes after a night of excessive drinking on New Years Eve, leaving many to rue the decision the following morning.
Luckily, a couple of Worcestershire’s pub landlords have shared a few of their personal tips to try and cure the dreaded New Years hangover.
Kyle Hassall is owner of three bars in Upton, namely The Boathouse, Bar7, and Mojitos.
With so much to manage it is perhaps unsurprising that he has developed a few techniques of his own.
He said: “There is of course the old classic of a pint of Guinness.”
For those not keen on going down the hair of the dog route, Kyle recommended: “The sugar in coke is always a good one, so a nice pint of full fat coke.”
He added: “We sell as part of our brunch menu at the Boathouse a Mexican belly filler. Fried eggs , bacon , chorizo , chillies , guacamole and hash browns.”
Whilst the idea of such a big breakfast might not take everyone’s fancy when they’re feeling a bit groggy, Kyle did have one last idea for those with a smaller appetite.
He said: “The Italians have a great hangover cure which is very simple crusty bread dipped in balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
“The sugar in the balsamic picks you up and the bread lines your stomach.”
The team at The Fleece Inn in Bretforton had their own ideas of how to tackle the New Years hangover.
The pub is famous for hosting ‘Nigel Night’ in 2019, where over 400 people called Nigel came together to celebrate their proud name.
With plans to host a second Nigel Night in 2022, following the news that there were no babies named Nigel in 2020, it looks set to be a big year for the boozer.
The man himself, pub landlord Nigel Smith, had one of the more out their hangover cures.
Staff member Tash said: “Nigel says a day at the races or a ride on a rollercoaster! I thought he'd have said a Bloody Mary and getting the pub set up for New Years Day normally works.”
