DIRTY used needles, burnt spoons and drugs paraphernalia were found in the stairwell of a busy car park.

Mum-of-two Bex Kent is warning other parents to watch their children after making the shocking discovery in St Martin's Gate Car Park on Saturday afternoon (December 18).

The family were heading into the city centre for a meal when they discovered the dirty needles and rubbish strewn across the top floor stairwell at 1pm.

The car park was busy with families enjoying a visit to the city centre on the last Saturday before Christmas Day.

Miss Kent immediately contacted Worcester City Council through an online form on their website but said the needles were still there when they returned two hours later.

Worcester City Council said it has a range of measures in place to avoid anti-social behaviour in St Martin’s Gate car park including CCTV, regular patrols and overnight closure of the building.

She said: "We had our two children with us so I was concerned about removing them from the area.

"It was definitely something that had just been used for drugs.

"My little girl was asking what they were which is difficult to explain in words she would understand.

"They were still there when we got back a two hours later.

"It's just awful to see at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon.

"I can't imagine what would happen if any children picked them up because children are inquisitive.

"There were so many families coming up the stairs.

"When I came back there was a family whose two small children were running up the stairs so I told them to be careful.

"The children could have slipped and fell on the needles.

"It doesn't bear thinking about."

Needles, syringes, lighters and other drug paraphernalia associated with heroin use was previously discovered by a resident in October.

A Worcester City Council spokesman said: “We have a range of measures in place to avoid anti-social behaviour in St Martin’s Gate car park, including CCTV, regular patrols by Council officers and overnight closure of the building from midnight to 7am every day. Where the perpetrators of anti-social behaviour can be identified we liaise with the Police, so that further action can be taken.

“We would like to thank this lady for reporting these needles, which have now been safely removed and disposed of. Anyone who makes a similar discovery should report it at www.worcester.gov.uk/report-it.”
