A WORCESTER woman caught on camera as she spat at and racially abused a Wetherspoons doorman has been jailed for Christmas.
Sharna Walker, aged 25, who had previously admitted racially aggravated common assault and criminal damage, was today sentenced to 14 weeks behind bars at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.
The bench heard how Walker responded angrily on being asked to leave the Figure of Eight pub in Broad Street, at around 10.30pm on Saturday May 22.
A video showing Walker pushing security guard Tristan Price, swearing and shouting obscenities was posted on social media following the incident, which took place in Birmingham’s Broad Street leisure district.
Footage showed Walker, of Woodhouse Close, Worcester then spat at him outside the bar before causing damage to a glass panel on the pub’s door.
Magistrates heard how Walker used racist language against the security staff member ‘at least 10 times’ during the outburst.
Walker, who subsequently went viral on social media, was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to Mr Price and banned from the Figure of Eight for two years unless otherwise given permission to attend by the landlord.
Speaking after the sentencing, Birmingham Police Chief Inspector James Spencer, said: “This was an disgraceful incident and people were understandably disgusted at her actions.
“Our city centre police teams have been working hard with local businesses and the community to make the city a safe and enjoyable place to visit. Racist behaviour is completely unacceptable. We will robustly investigate crimes of this nature and offenders can expect to be prosecuted.”
