POLICE are appealing for people to be vigilant after a series of thefts of lead flashing from roofs in the county.
Over the last week three thefts have been reported in the Areley Kings area of Stourport, two from the Areley Kings Village Hall and one from another community building, the Old School House in Abberley Avenue.
The village hall thefts were between Sunday, January 13, and Tuesday, January 15, when £1,000 worth of lead sheet was stolen from off the roof and £10,000 worth of damage caused.
The Old School House theft was between Monday, January 14 and Thursday, January 17, when lead flashing was stolen from around the chimneys. The value is still being assessed.
PC Andy Brooks-Davies of Stourport Police said: "Lead thefts have been an on-going problem locally and nationally, but we have seen a spate reported in the last few days.
"In some of the cases, the theft of the lead has only been noticed when it has rained in.
"We are appealing for residents to be vigilant, and to keep an eye on each other's homes and on buildings such as community centres, churches and schools.
"The offenders are likely to have a vehicle so anyone who sees people on the roof and becomes suspicious is asked to make a note of the registration number and contact police on 08457 444888 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
"They should be especially suspicious if they see any unusual activity, such as people carrying ladders, at night."
