Worcestershire Royal Hospital has reopened its Meadow Birth Centre after it had been used for mums and babies with Covid.

Hazel Brookes, Meadow Birth Centre team leader said: "We are thrilled to be able to welcome families back to the birth centre.

"It’s clear how valued the centre is within the local community.

"We have been busy preparing to open again and are so excited to be able to provide this midwifery-led service to families across Worcestershire.”

A spokesperson from Worcestershire Royal Hospital said: "At the start of the pandemic, the area was used to safely isolate mothers and babies who may have been in contact with, or had tested positive for, Covid-19."

The spokesperson said the number of pregnant women testing positive for Covid-19 when admitted to the maternity unit had now reduced enough so they could be cared for in single rooms in the delivery suite.

The Meadow Birth Centre offers a comfortable home from home environment and is run by midwives.

Kate Weaver said: "I was transferred to Meadow Suite when I tested positive for covid-19 at 32 weeks in August.

"I stayed there until I was taken for a section birth about four days later.

"I know it's been tough for those ladies who wanted use of the centre for their births, but I'm graetful it was repurposed for a short time."

Jess James said: "Had two of my babies here - best experience ever. Coudln't fault it at all!"

Amy Watson said: "I was lucky enough to have both of my babies in the water at meadows.

"So pleased to see it's back open."

Becky Westwood said: "Had my little boy here and I feel so lucky.

"The staff were all amazing and the suite itself is beyond expectations.

"Will forever be thankful!"

Jo Pearce said: "I had my son in the Poppy Suite in 2018 and it was the most incredible experience.

"I really missed it when I had my daughter in May of this year so I'm really pleased it is back open again."

Shannon Kerr said: "I had both my births within these rooms, so lovely and peaceful! I hope it's still up and running when we consider baby number three."
