A WORCESTERSHIRE couple who are still living in a caravan while their flooded pub is refurbished have spent a nervous few hours waiting to see if their home will flood again.

We previously reported how Graham and Cheryl Harrison were facing a bleak Christmas and New Year in the caravan they have been living in since two weeks after this summer's floods.

The couple, who run the Rose and Crown pub at Severn Stoke, near Upton-upon-Severn, had hoped the worst of their ordeal was over but have watched in horror as floodwaters rose again this week. Mr Harrison said: "I've got my fingers crossed tighter than I've ever had them. We are on tenterhooks and we are close to it happening again."

He has asked his son, who is a transit manager, to be on hand to help him if he needs to empty new equipment, including fridges and freezers, only recently fitted inside the pub.

He said: "We are on standby to remove everything again. It's a nightmare situation."

Mr Harrison said he had been monitoring river levels and believed there was about three inches (76mm) to go before the water burst the banks.

However, he hopes the black and white, grade II listed pub, which ended up 3ft 4ins (1m) under water in July, would be safe this time.

He said: "There isn't anywhere near the same level of water that there in July, even though it's all over the news. I look at the fields and they are not as wet as they were."

The pub, which is nearing the end of an extensive refurbishment, is due to open again on Thursday, January 31, when Mr and Mrs Harrison will also be able to leave the touring caravan in the pub's car park and return to their upstairs living rooms.
