A MAIN city road is due to be partially closed for emergency work as a building is deemed unsafe this evening.
Workers asked for an emergency closure tonight (Friday) after discovering the building leased to Poundland on Broad Street could be at risk of partially collapsing.
The emergency closure is in place from the junction with Boston Tea Party and applies to traffic as well as pedestrians.
Jon Fraser, head of Worcestershire Highways said it is a developing situation and there is no date for when it will reopen.
It will be a blow for traders though the road remains open from Angel Place up to the High Street.
""It's a developing situation, we had a call from the building inspector to say they had uncovered dangers within the structure.
"There's a potential for some kind of collapse and they have asked us to close the road.
"As they were working on the rooftop to get it fixed they have come across some more problems.
"It's a concerning situation."
Angel Place market has already been announced to be closed on Saturday because of Storm Arwen.
More to come.
