A FORMER deputy Prime Minister visited Worcester this weekend to reflect on his decades of public service.
Michael Heseltine appeared as guest speaker at the annual lunch of the Oxford University Society Worcestershire on November 13.
The event, held at Stanbrook Abbey Hotel, saw Lord Heseltine reflect on his time in politics and in particular his views on the European Union.
He discussed why, from early on, he came to be so supportive of closer European co-operation and the EU.
He also talked of his work in Government developing the Space Agency; and also on Defence and the economy.
Lord Heseltine said he thought that attempts to re-join the EU would emerge in the next few years.
He also discussed how he helped to transform Liverpool where he is now a Freeman of the City.
Councillor Alan Amos, chairman of the Oxford University Society, said :“As somebody who worked with him in the House of Commons, I have no doubt that Lord Heseltine is easily the greatest Prime Minister we never had.
"Had he become Prime Minister, the UK would be a very different and much better place.
"Few politicians actually, in the end, make any difference, but he is one of the few who certainly did.
"His career was one of true achievement."
