WORCESTER'S former MP has said MPs should not have certain second jobs as the Owen Paterson row rumbles on.

The second jobs of MPs are under scrutiny after former minister Owen Paterson was found to have broken lobbying rules.

Worcester's MP Robin Walker, Mid Worcestershire's MP Nigel Huddleston and West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin all don't have second jobs - Mr Walker telling us last week: "Quite rightly when you are a minister you can't have any outside interests at all."

Mike Foster, who was the Labour MP for Worcester between 1997 and 2010, told the BBC he never took a second job in his time in parliament, and said it was time to look at the rules.

Mr Foster said: "I didn't take any second earnings.

"It (second jobs) does depend on what it is but a line can be draw in the sand on directorships and consultancies, which are clearly not part of an individual's professional development or their previous career.

"The line now has to be drawn that says I'm sorry, if you want to have your earnings from company x go and work for them - but you can't be a member of parliament at the same time."
