HERE are the latest images which show how a new bridge across the River Avon in Evesham could look.

New artist’s impressions reveal for the first time the design of a proposed new walking and cycling bridge linking Hampton and Evesham town centre.

Worcestershire County Council is asking for views on the proposed bridge ahead of submitting a planning application.

Councillor Alan Amos, cabinet member for highways, said: “This bridge is a big step forward in our commitment to improve walking and cycling routes across Evesham.

“The new bridge will provide a vital link between Hampton and its new housing developments on the west of the town with the facilities and services in the town centre.

“It will also improve access for people from the town side of the river to attractions on the Hampton side.”

The idea for a new bridge was first put forward as part of housebuilders Bellway's plan to build hundreds of homes in Hampton in 2014 with the developer expected to foot much of the bill.

Delays were caused by years of negotiations between the developer and the county council over paying for the bridge.

The new bridge will link Hampton with Evesham town centre giving people access to schools, employment and transport links.

The council said the bridge would also help tackle congestion problems in Evesham, improve journey times and improve air quality by providing an alternative to driving for short journeys.

Two drop-in events are being held in Evesham where residents can view the plans.

An event will be held at Evesham Town Hall between 5pm and 7pm on Tuesday, November 16 ahead of a second session at Hampton Guide and Scout Community Hall in Pershore Road between 2.30pm and 5pm on Friday, November 19.

The closing date for submissions is December 20.
