POLICE say they found nothing after going to a Worcester street because of a report of gun shots.

Armed police, a helicopter and police dogs were sent to Ambrose Close, Dines Green, before the fruitless search was called off.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Police were called to Ambrose Close at 9.45pm on Sunday, November 7, following a report of hearing gun shots.

"Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and a helicopter from the National Police Air Service.

"A thorough search of the area was completed.

"No signs of disorder were found and no injuries were reported.

"No further calls were received in relation to this."

An eyewitness filmed a police helicopter hovering above Dines Green and residents say they were initially told it was a 'serious incident'.

However some residents of Ambrose Close have questioned if the gun shot noise may have been loud fireworks.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I was woken up by the helicopter.

"I looked out the window, saw an unmarked police car. The next thing I saw another one had turned up, and armed police got out.

"They were carrying guns.

"A policeman came up to my window and said 'have you heard any gunshots? There has been a report that a member of the public has heard gunshots'.

"We didn't hear any gunshots, but then there were fireworks going off'."

Another resident said: "I go shooting myself, I think it was fireworks because I would have recognised a gunshot.

"The police were gone by half 10."

Six police cars were involved in the search of the Dines Green road. An ambulance also went to the call out.
