A girl who has helped care for her cancer-battling mother and special educational needs siblings has won a special award.
Juliann Chamberlain, from Worcester, was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of this year and since then she has undergone three surgeries and is currently undergoing chemotherapy with more surgery and radiotherapy to follow.
Her daughter Ellesse has not only helped take care of her but also her three younger siblings, two of whom have special educational needs.
All the while, Ellesse has continued to attend school as she prepares for her GCSE’s next year.
Juliann said: “She keeps everyone's spirits up and just keeps going. She is amazing.
“The personal cares Ellesse has undertaken to keep me safe and at home include dressing changes, wound packing, managing drains and injections. All jobs a young girl of her age shouldn’t have to face.”
On Thursday, November 4, Ellesse was presented with the Girlguiding Hero award, having been nominated by her leader Kay Poole.
Juliann says this is the first award of it’s kind to be presented in Worcester and is the highest possible achievement in Girlguiding.
