MOTORISTS should avoid unnecessary journeys in Herefordshire because of flooding.

A Herefordshire police spokesman said, although many of the roads that were affected by floodwater yesterday had now cleared, there were still hazardous driving conditions particularly in light of a spate of accidents this morning.

A multi-agency meeting between the emergency services, local authority and other agencies met at 8am in Hereford to discuss the flooding situation.

Flood watches remain in place across the River Wye between Hay-on-Wye and Ross-on-Wye with the river expected to peak later today and remain high for some time.

The St Martins Street and Edgar Street car parks in Hereford are affected by floodwater and parking is restricted in these areas as a result.
