EYEWITNESSES spoke about seeing big clouds of smoke billowing from a fire in Powick last night (Wednesday).

Five different fire crews were sent to the blaze in a wooden agricultural building on the A449 at just after 8.30pm.

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the fire.

Firefighters were at the scene for ten hours and had to cut sides from the wooden stable and outbuilding to fight the flames.

Malvern Road was closed off by police officers who also helped with traffic management.

An eyewitness said they saw large plumes of smoke billowing as they drove through the village.

He said: "As I was driving towards Malvern from Powick I could see a big cloud of smoke.

"But then I realised there was a big fire coming from the back of a property.

"Then firefighters and a water tanker came to deal with the fire and police were also at the scene dealing with traffic.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – two from Worcester, one from Pershore, one from Malvern and the water carrier from Evesham went to the fire.

Worcester News:

A spokesman said: "A wooden outbuilding, around 10 x 8 metres was well alight with the fire extinguished using four hose reel jets, augmented by a street hydrant and the water carrier, with two firefighters using breathing apparatus.

"Forty eight bales of hay were removed to outside.

"Crews cut away the wooden sides and the roof from a stable and outbuilding using small tools.

"Electrics were isolated and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots.

A reinspection was carried out at 5am and the incident was closed at just after 6.30am.
