A WOMAN was treated for burns and the effects of smoke inhalation after a house fire in Worcester.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on the ground floor of a house in Hawkins Close, Dines Green on Sunday morning. An air ambulance also attended the scene, with police closing the road while crews tackled the fire.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said: "We were called to reports of a property fire on Hawkins Close at 9.51am.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered a woman from the property who was treated for burns and the effects of smoke inhalation.

"Following treatment at the scene she was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham by land ambulance.

"The air crew travelled with the patient to help continue treatment en route to hospital. A second patient was assessed for smoke inhalation and discharged at scene."

An eyewitness described seeing a woman 'wrapped in foil' being taken from the house.

Damage to the property was described as 'extensive' by the fire service, who also said there was considerable fire and smoke damage to the ground floor of the house.

PVC window frames had visibly melted on the outside of the property from the intensity of the heat.

Fire investigation officers carried out work at the scene.
