FIVE miles of queues have built up on the M5 after a 'multiple vehicle collision'.

One of three lanes has been closed between J8 and J7 northbound, with current delays of up to 45 minutes expected.

National Highways for West Midlands say that traffic officers are on the scene and working to clear the vehicles involved.

It is not yet clear how long the lane closure will remain in place, or whether there has been any injuries.

This is the second major incident on the M5 in as many days.

Some motorists faced standstills of over two hours yesterday after a lorry jackknifed and damaged the carriageway following a collision.

*Update: The vehicles have now been moved to the hard shoulder and all lanes have been reopened - residual traffic remains.
