'Severe' delays have stretched as far as Droitwich after a lorry jack-knifed on the M5 this morning.
Police completely closed the motorway between J4 and J3 northbound due to a crash which caused the lorry to jack-knife, damaging the carriageway in the process.
Additional closures were then implemented at J5 northbound, J4 & J5 entry slips and J1 of the M42 to ease "trapped traffic".
They have since fully reopened the carriageway in both directions, however, motorists are experiencing average speeds of 20mph travelling northbound from J5 onwards.
Queues have also formed on the A38 through Droitwich and Bromsgrove as drivers have been forced to find an alternative route.
Dramatic pictures show how the lorry smashed through the crash barrier on the side of the motorway before hitting the verge behind it.
A lamppost was also damaged, which police said, "could drop onto the carriageway".
Fire crews and highways officers were earlier trying to tackle a diesel spillage, which was leaking from the lorry onto the carriageway.
