As part of it’s historic 150th season celebrations, Worcester RFC will be hosting a 10 team, tri nations mixed ability rugby tournament this weekend.
On Saturday October 30, the club will welcome teams from Scotland, Wales and England; all of whom are specialist mixed ability rugby teams.
Mixed Ability rugby is an inclusive form of rugby with a handful of tweaks to the rules such as uncontested scrums and restricted contact dependant on ability.
This variation on the sport has grown hugely in the last decades with two World Championships being held and the next now due to be held in Cork in June next year.
At the last competition, Worcester came a creditable 5th and were the highest ranked side in England.
Club Chairman Stephen Lloyd said: "We are delighted to be hosting The Tri Nations Club Cup at the end of October.
"Mixed Ability rugby has been a huge success at Worcester RFC and in the wider Rugby Family.
"To have 10 teams competing in a tournament of inclusive rugby will be a joy to behold. Competition will be tough and the winners rightfully triumphant but Mixed Ability Rugby is about inclusion and taking part so if you want to witness sport at it's most joyful then don’t miss this, it’s going to be an incredible weekend!"
Event organiser and founder of Worcester Mixed ability, AJ Mills added: "The day will be a gathering of home nations clubs, from all corners of the UK, celebrating grassroots rugby, where it all begins.
"Rugby is a true sport for all shapes and sizes, and everyone has a place in this beautiful game."
Teams playing include; Swansea Gladiators, Newport Allstars, Surrey Chargers, Halifax Magpies, Longlevens, Derby Bucks, Edinburgh Rugby Inclusive Team, Shropshire Stags, Walcot Warriors and Berkshire Brigands.
Local rugby fans are encouraged to attend with FREE entry to all. The bar and kitchen will be open, with a bouncy castle and rodeo bull.
Games kick off at 12pm with the finals being held from 4pm onwards.
There will be 4 pools of 3 teams playing 15 a side with each team progressing to a semi-final against a similar positioned side in a different pool with then a Spoon, Plate & Cup up for grabs in the Finals.
Worcester RFC always welcome new players at ALL levels and have teams for all ages & abilities from 18 months to 60+ with a 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, Mixed Ability and Senior Women’s Team as well as didi Rugby & a large Mini & Junior section.
