A CHILDREN'S author from Worcestershire is making a name for herself abroad after a foreign MP showed interest in her stories.

Not only is Sue Huband's first book, Arabella's Stories, being used in schools across the Midlands, it is also a new addition in libraries in the villages of Gozo - an island off the coast of Malta - where she has had a holiday home for more than 28 years.

It follows talks between the 61-year-old, who lives near Ombersley and Giovanna Debono - Gozo's MP.

The stories follow the adventures of Arabella Twigg as she is transported into historic events.

Mrs Huband said: "They don't normally put foreigner's books in the libraries, so it's quite a first, but she calls me an honorary Gozitan!"

Following a positive response from the Maltese children, who are easily able to read the book because English is their second language, Mrs Huband has been approached by a publisher about writing a series of stories, featuring Arabella, about Maltese history.

"I'm basically researching it because I don't know enough to write a book yet," she said.

"We've had preliminary discussions and I'm probably going out to meet them in February.

"My agent says I'll probably be better-known over there than I am here."

Mrs Huband has also written another book of short stories, which will be called More Adventures of Arabella Twigg and the Troublesome Tom, in which the pair encounter the bloodthirsty Aztecs, a Viking invasion and experience life as World War Two evacuees.

Mrs Huband said the books are factual, educational and fun.

She is also in the process of writing another book about the Ancient Greeks in time for the Olympics.

These both have yet to be published.
