REPORTS from the chatter, cheese and wine circuit seem to indicate that our rising professional classes have found a new source of slave labour - the Polish immigrant worker.
A few months ago, I recounted the story of the guest house landlord who kept a couple in one room, just as the rest of us might keep rabbits or guineas.
After a while, they outgrew their space and were allotted a larger container. Actually, for room', perhaps read hutch'.
The latest example of exploitation would appear to be a new species known as the Polish home help'. This is the new Filipino maid, nanny or poor old scrubber who's now hard at work scraping the remains of Nigella Lawson recipes off the farmhouse kitchen floors of any number of Channel 4-watching right-ons.
However, apart from this, I have nothing against these Guardian-reading hypocrites.
