TRUE to their colourful name, the Rainbow Walkers strode out for their inaugural health walk yesterday in the glistening sunshine that followed Friday's storms.

About 15 people met at the Rainbow Hill Centre in Astwood Road for the newly-formed walking group's first afternoon stroll around Worcester.

"It went very well," said volunteer walk leader Lyn Morton. "We were really concerned about the whole thing on Friday, but our prayers were answered when the sun came out on Saturday morning."

The group, which will now meet at the Rainbow Hill Centre every Saturday afternoon at 1.30pm, has been set up by Worcestershire County Council as part of the Government's healthy walks initiative.

"We had a real mix of people, and everybody seemed to enjoy it," said Mrs Morton.

"Everyone was talking and mixing together, and at the end of the walk we all sat down for a cup of tea and some cake and had a good chat."

The group is open to all - anyone interested in joining should contact Alison Williams on 01905 768289.

"Walking is one of the best forms of exercise there is," said Mrs Morton. "This group is a way of improving your health, making new friends and then afterwards sharing some social time together."
