WORCESTER remains on flood alert this morning, but water levels are now reported to be falling in the River Severn.
With more rain forecast throughout the day, flood barriers will stay in place in Worcester city and at Upton-upon-Severn "for the forseeable future", an Environment Agency spokesperson said.
Contrary to the agency's expectations, water levels in the River Severn continued to rise yesterday, peaking at around 4.6m in Worcester last night.
Footpaths were submerged and there were reports of flooding once again at Worcestershire County Cricket ground.
"Water levels are now dropping in both the River Severn and the Avon," the Environment Agency spokesperson said. "But we need people to remain vigilant as more rain is on the way."
