HOME furnishing store Dunelm Mill looks set to move from its city centre location and open on a Worcester retail park after permission was granted for extra floorspace at an industrial unit.

Worcester city councillors agreed a mezzanine floor, which would provide an extra 1,394 square metres of space, could be built in a unit on the Elgar Retail Park.

Planning officer Alan Coleman said Dunelm Mill would be transferring its city centre store, which is next to Iceland in the CrownGate shopping centre, to the retail park in Blackpole Road, Worcester.

Members of the council's planning committee agreed the plan after hearing council officers did not believe the move would be detrimental to the city centre.

Mezzanine floors have only recently required planning permission after concerns were raised that installing them to extend out-ot-town stores could affect the viability and vitality of town and city centres.

A spokeswoman for Dunelm Mill said the company did intend to relocate its Worcester store but was unable to say when it would happen.

A spokeswoman for CrownGate said they were unable to comment at the moment but were looking forward to releasing details of new tenants as they were confirmed.
