FLOOD barriers are set to go up in Upton-upon-Severn tonight as the county braces itself for more wet weather.
As the water levels in the River Severn rapidly rise, the Environment Agency has just announced it will erect the barriers in the Worcestershire riverside town as a "precaution".
"We are going to put them up at 7pm tonight. It's only the lower level (of the barrier) as a precaution," she said.
She said the team was monitoring the situation in Worcester closely, but as of yet, was not planning to erect the barriers along the city's Hylton Road.
In Callow End, near Worcester, Councillor Tom Wells said manhole covers in Lower Ferry were "bursting" off because of the pressure following a deluge of water.
"There is a river running down this road at the moment," he said.
"I am probably stood in two foot of water."
He said the water was threatening to flood about 12 homes and was causing traffic chaos, reducing the main road through the village to one lane.
He said Malvern Hills District Council was on route to deliver sandbags to worried residents.
- Drivers are facing treacherous conditions caused by surface water and rain.
In Worcester Wyld's Lane/Midland Road is just passable with care.
Delays have been reported on the M5 northbound between J4A M42 and J4 A38 (Lydiate Ash / Bromsgrove).
The slip road of the M50 westbound junction 1 near Malvern is closed due to flooding.
- Torrential rain and heavy winds have caused a large tree to fall, completely blocking the eastern end of Beech Avenue in Perdiswell, Worcester.
Resident Neil Humphries said: "It's going from a garden on one side of the street, completely across the road, and into a garden on the other side. No-one can get in or out of Beech Avenue."
