LUCY TISDALE is swapping the comforts of home for Ghana in Africa to help build a resource centre.
The 25-year-old, from Tenbury, ran all day on a treadmill to raise the £850 she needs to take part in the month-long charitable trip, organised by Tenbury-based Village-by-Village challenge and GapMonth.
In Ghana she also hopes to help teach English at a local school and take part in sports coaching.
"There are about 500 pupils at the school," she said.
"If you look at the school in photographs it just looks like a huge tin shed."
Miss Tisdale said she got "a bee in her bonnet" over poverty in Africa and started to think more and more about taking a trip to Ghana after she saw the Village-by-Village Smart Car out and about in Tenbury.
Village-by-Village is a non-profit making registered charity providing opportunities for individuals to make a meaningful contribution. Gap month works in Ghana, specialising in carefully selected community projects.
