A WORCESTER police Duty Inspector is to face one of the biggest challenges of his life when he marks his 30 years' service for West Mercia Constabulary.
Peter Andrews, who is based at Worcester Police Station, is set to travel to Tanzania to take part in the Kilimanjaro Challenge on behalf of the charity SCOPE - a disability organisation to help people with cerebral palsy.
Inspector Andrews, who recently completed 30 years service with the force - will be joining 25 people from all walks of life from across the UK to raise cash for the cause on Thursday, January 24.
The 49-year-old from Evesham will try to climb Mount Kilimanjaro which, at 19,350ft, is not only the highest mountain in Africa but also the highest free-standing mountain in the world!
He said: "Thirty years' service is a significant landmark for any police officer and so I thought I would mark the occasion by giving something back to the community, while at the same time pushing myself to the absolute limit.
"I am taking this challenge very seriously and while training for this event I have made over 70 ascents of the 1,036-ft Broadway Hill as I do not want to let my sponsors down."
Insp Andrews has committed himself to raising over £4,000 for SCOPE, one of the largest disability charities in the UK.
"Individuals and businesses across South Worcestershire have been very generous but I still have some way to go. Just a few pounds would help me get closer to my target so please sponsor me and help SCOPE continue its important work."
Insp Andrews has personally contributed £850 to offset the cost of his expedition.
