YOUNG people from Worcester donned monks' habits and hard hats to promote a special singing event later this month.
Come and Sing on Saturday, January 19, will commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the birth of St Wulfstan, who was responsible for the rebuilding of Worcester Cathedral.
Youngsters aged seven to 13 are invited to take part in the event, which is being organised by Worcester Cathedral Arts in partnership with Singworks.
There will be an afternoon singing workshop led by Christopher Allsop, assistant organist at Worcester Cathedral. Afterwards, those taking part will join Worcester Cathedral Choir to sing Evensong in the cathedral.
Young people also have the chance to join Worcester Cathedral's new junior choirs. There are two choirs, one for girls and one for boys. They meet on Saturday mornings to learn musical skills and sing a wide range of music, not just traditional church music.
Cathy Dew, Singworks' project manager, said: "The junior choirs give young people a wonderful opportunity to discover how exciting it can be to sing together. Young people aged seven to 13 can join and are welcome to attend two rehearsals to find out what it is like before becoming a full member."
The workshop on Saturday, January 19, will begin at 1pm and Evensong will be from 5.30-6.15pm. It will cost £4 to participate. Application forms are available from the Singworks website at www.singworks.net
