McDonald’s has run out of milkshakes in all of its UK restaurants due to supply chain problems.

The fast-food chain has also been left without bottled drinks across its 1,250 outlets in England, Scotland and Wales.

A spokesman said they are “working hard to return these items to the menu”.

This follows news last week that Nando’s was forced to shut around 50 restaurants due to a chicken shortage. Staff shortages at suppliers and a reduced number of lorry drivers were cited as the reason behind the shortage.

KFC has also warned that the recent supply chain issues has meant it has been unable to provide some items on its menu.

Firms from a range of sectors, including supermarkets, have been affected by these issues which have resulted from a shortage of lorry drivers due to post-Brexit EU immigration rules as well as covid restrictions and self-isolation rules.

Business groups representing the retail and transport sectors have been calling for the Government to review plans not to grant temporary work visas to drivers from the EU.

McDonald’s was not immediately available for comment.
