A MAN is walking 100 miles in 100 hours, visiting 100 pubs and drinking 100 halves - and it's all inspired by the incredible fundraising efforts of Captain Tom.
Across five days Nick Wormald will work around the entire Worcestershire boundary in the hopes he will raise £25,000 for Maggs Day Centre.
The Worcester based charity provides support for the homeless, socially isolated and vulnerable throughout Worcestershire.
Nick said: "The 100 Challenge initiative was first founded upon the dramatic reduction in charitable income resulting from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"At the inception of Captain Tom’s incredible endeavours, I undertook to raise 1 per cent of the amount raised by Captain Tom which is £10,000. It is, of course, only recently that fundraising could begin.
"The 100 Challenge embraces so many aspects that are great about our culture including welfare, canals, pubs, open countryside and the incredible generosity of our people.
"This has already allowed us to increase our ambitions to £25,000."
Nick will be joined on the challenge by Mel Kirk, chief executive of Maggs Day Centre.
Mel said: "As an organisation, we rely on the support of individuals like Nick to help fund the work we do. As we emerge from many months of lockdown it is more important than ever that we have a network of proper support to help the more vulnerable members of society.
"Calculated by head of population, the incidence of rough sleeping in Worcester (one person in 3,500) is higher than in London (one person in 7,800)."
Nick starts his 100 Challenge from Purity Brewery at Great Alne at midday on Monday, August 23 2021, returning to Purity Brewery by 4pm on Friday, August 27 2021; his route broadly takes him around the Worcestershire county boundary.
