ROAD resurfacing work on stretches of Worcester’s Southern Link Road early next month will see overnight closures and traffic diversions.

Worcestershire County Council plans to carry out the work on Broomhall Way from the Ketch roundabout with A38 Worcester Road to the roundabout with St Peter’s Drive; on Crookbarrow Way from the roundabout with St Peter’s Drive to its junction with Whittington Road; and on Norton Road from the roundabout with St Peter’s Drive to its junction with Taylors Lane.

Diversions will be put in place from 9pm to 5am, with high-sided vehicles facing lengthy detours. Work is due to start on Monday, September 6, and is expected to last five nights.

Alternative routes, diversion 1, westbound for high-sided vehicles: Crookbarrow Way, Whittington Road, Swinesherd Way, Nunnery Way, Grange Way, Trotshill Way, Parsonage Way, Warndon Way, A449 Worcester Northern Link, Ombersley Road, Barbourne Road, Upper Tything, The Tything, St Marys Street, Sansome Walk, Sansome Street, City Walls Road, Sidbury, A38 Commandery Road, Bath Road, Worcester Road and vice versa. Westbound diversion, all other vehicles: Crookbarrow Way, Whittington Road, A44 Whittington Road, London Road, A38 Sidbury, Commandery Road, Bath Road, Worcester Road, Broomhall Way and vice versa.

Eastbound diversion: A38 Worcester Road, Bath Road, Commandery Road, Sidbury, London Road, A44 Whittington Road, Whittington Road, Crookbarrow Way and vice-versa.

The council is also considering a ban on right turns by vehicles coming out of the Worcester Viewpoint on to the A38.

In the city itself, part of Tunnel Hill is to be closed for Severn Trent water works. The road will be closed from Alder Close to its junction with Highland Road from Sunday, September 5, with work set to last three days.
