A MAN kicked out of a pub made matters worse by attacking a police officer, a court has heard.
At Worcester Magistrates' Court today, Samuel Shevels admitted using threatening and abusive words or behaviour and assaulting a police officer in Tenbury Wells.
Alex Warren, prosecuting, said two officers were on patrol at about 11.30pm on Saturday, September 8, and found Shevels, of Oak Tree Close, Burford, Tenbury Wells, arguing with another man outside the Bridge pub in Teme Street.
Mr Warren said the 22-year-old was agitated and unhappy about being ejected from the pub.
He said: "He was shouting and swearing and once police were involved he was very abusive about the police."
The court was told Shevels was arrested and, while in the back of a police car with one of the officers, began flailing his arms around.
Mr Warren said: "When the officer took hold of one of his arms, he swung round towards the officer shouting, 'come on then, come on then' and tried to pull the officer's head towards himself by getting him round the neck and head and pulling."
The court heard officers had to stop the car, use a CS gas spray, and wrestle Shevels to the ground.
Andy Childs, defending, told magistrates he had a lot to say in Shevels' defence but would not waste the court's time if magistrates intended to order a probation report.
Magistrates decided they did want a full report after hearing that a previous order for unpaid work had not been completed.
Addressing magistrates himself, Shevels said there were reasons he had not carried out the work but was told to explain them to a probation officer.
Magistrates will sentence him on Wednesday, January 30.
