The committee once again excelled themselves in preparing St David's Institute for Comer's Christmas party.
The aroma of mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas music set the scene for a couple of hours of laughter and chatter around decorative tables enhanced with flowers, crackers and tempting savoury party food.
Jackie Taylor, acting as president, welcomed members, with apologies from Val Stinton, who was rather unwell, and Jenny Morrison, who was away on holiday. A special welcome was given to Liz Thomas, a visitor, and there were three birthdays to celebrate. Members were sorry to hear that Angela Bell would not be renewing her membership in the new year. Angela had been a loyal member over some years and many were grateful to her for arranging trips to MMTG Christmas shows along with coach travel.
Business matters were kept to a minimum, but time enough to remind the membership of the arranged post-Christmas dinner in January at Spires restaurant. Numbers were also requested for those interested in the Wartime Review show at Stourport Civic Centre in March.
At this point, Eve Lane gave a special thanks to the three retiring officers, Viv Jackman, president, Jackie Taylor, secretary and Maggie Hartley, treasurer, for their sterling efforts over many years in making Comer WI such a special group. All had worked without reserve and would be an extremely hard act to follow. Each was presented with a small token gift and card to show the membership's gratitude.
The evening proceeded with a picture quiz, musical bingo and time to relax and talk.
The traditional raffle was most impressive with two food hampers and many other prizes waiting to be won. The bran tub provided a gift for everyone.
This pleasant evening came to an end with cries of happy Christmas and good wishes for the new year ringing out.
The next meeting of Comer WI will be on January 16 at 7.30pm where a warm welcome will be given to members new and old.
