THERE is little better than a cup of tea, selection of finger sandwiches and a few slices of cake.

And with Afternoon Tea Week starting on Monday, August 9 you may be wondering where is best to enjoy an afternoon tea in Worcester.

Fortunately, we have a great selection of cafes and hotels to enjoy an afternoon tea.

From the traditional to the fun and quirky, here are the seven best places to enjoy an afternoon tea in Worcester.

1. G & Tea, Friar Street

Fresh scones, finger sandwiches, a varied selection of cakes and all served on the most delicate china.

It doesn't get much more traditional than this and all in a cosy tearoom with a vintage feel.

You could even add a gin cocktail served out of a real vintage teapot to your afternoon tea.

A traditional afternoon tea costs £15pp while the savoury tea costs £10 with cream teas starting at £6.

2. Centenary Lounge, The Cross

If you really fancied making it a special occasion you could dress in the 1920s stye of the beautiful Centenary Lounge for your afternoon tea.

The café has been refurbished in an art deco-style with the aim of giving an authentic experience of what it was like in the bygone years of Britain’s railways.

Where better to enjoy than quintessentially English afternoon tea crammed full of treats for you to enjoy.

There are four afternoon teas to choose from, including a vegan version (booked 48 hours in advance), and you can even add extras too.

Prices range from £19pp to £25pp.

3. Friar Street Kitchen, New Street

A quirkier take on the traditional afternoon tea, Friar Street Kitchen's mini picnic benches certainly have the wow factor.

Their current ones feature mini cheeseburger, hand cut chips, buttermilk chicken and mozzarella sticks.

There is also a Twix rocky road, Kinder Bueno cheesecake, Biscoff fudge and a Jammy Dodger blondie to satisfy the sweetest tooth.

The summer bench is served until Wednesday, September 1 and costs £19.95pp with a minimum of two people sharing.

You must give at least 12 hours' notice and there is also a children's version available too.

4. The Twisted Spoon, Upton Snodsbury

A countryside pub featuring a tea house with a reputation for delicious cakes is perhaps a perfect spot for afternoon tea.

The cakes are homemade and the ingredients are locally sourced making it a real delight.

Twisted Spoon has recently started serving up a new savoury afternoon tea - you can even choose an option which comes with prosecco.

You need to give 24 hours' notice for the afternoon tea which costs either £12 or £16 with bubbles.

5. Chocolate Deli, New Street

This one is for the serious chocaholics.

Chocolate and afternoon teas go hand in hand at Chocolate Deli in New Street.

You can even get your hands on a takeaway afternoon tea if you fancy enjoying it in the comfort of your own home.

6. Stanbrook Abbey, Callow End

A very unique setting to enjoy an afternoon tea - Stanbrook Abbey was built in the early 16th century and is a former Grade II listed monastery.

Surrounded by dramatic stone cloisters and gothic stained-glass windows, you can enjoy an afternoon tea in style.

You can enjoy a full afternoon tea or upgrade to a Champagne afternoon tea if you feel like splurging.

Booking is recommended.

Prices start at £26.95 per person and tea is served from 1pm to 4.30pm every day, with the last sitting at 3pm.

7. Garden Tea Rooms, Great Witley

Deep in the Worcestershire countryside lies the Garden Team Rooms in Great Witley.

You will be spoiled for choice as there are three afternoon teas on offer - cream tea, afternoon tea for two or high tea for two.

It all comes served using vintage china and tiered cake stands for that authentic experience.
