DRIVERS who park at ASDA car park will have noticed construction work taking place.

Shoppers have reported that "lots of work" has been going on inside the car park on Silver Street.

Whole floors have been closed off while work takes place leaving fewer spaces for customers.

ASDA car park is one of the most popular car parks in the city as it offers free parking for up to two hours if you spend £5 in store.

Otherwise, people who do not shop at the supermarket can pay £2 for up to two hours parking.

Worcester News:

Alicia Clow, news manager for ASDA, said the current work at the site is to make the spaces bigger and resurface the car park.

She added that the work should be completed in August.

When the car park opened it led to the income at the nearby St Martin's Gate car park falling by 25 per cent year-on-year in 2012.

Prices were slashed at the city council run car park which saw a rise in the number of people parking their cars at St Martin's Gate but still below the figures before ASDA opened.

However, the opening of the ASDA car park was not without issues for drivers.

Soon after opening in 2012, there were constant complaints about the car park getting log-jammed at peak times.

Readers reported problems with nose-to-tail traffic inside, and in some cases queues of up to 45 minutes.

Many were critical of the layout of the ramps, directions inside the car park, and the flow of traffic which placed drivers trying to get inside against cars wanting to get back out.

Eventually, the complaints led to the layout being changed which resolved the issues.
