Students of Tudor Grange Academy have been left disappointed after end of year activity days are scrapped due to covid outbreak.

Trips to Drayton Manor theme park and Barry Island have been cancelled and replaced with activity days at school.

Principal David Butler confirmed the news in a letter to parents on 6 July.

He said: “With the recent outbreak of positive covid cases in school, reflecting the local community transmission rates, we have had to make this difficult decision.

“We know that this will be a disappointment but the safety of our pupils, staff and families remains paramount as well as reducing the risk of transmitting the virus to other parts of the country.

“Please be assured that we are committed to providing engaging and exciting enrichment opportunities during this week for the pupils in school.”

Worcester News:

Students will instead spend the week doing activities such as cooking, photography or dance.

Sports day is still scheduled to go ahead on Thursday 15 July while the Duke of Edinburgh bronze expedition will be rescheduled for autumn.

Dr Kathryn Cobain, director of Public Health for Worcestershire, said: “We have been advised of a number of confirmed Coronavirus cases at Tudor Grange Academy Worcester. The cases were quickly identified by the school and notified to Public Health England and Public Health Worcestershire.

“The relevant bubbles have been asked to self-isolate as per the national guidance and the school continues to be supported by Public Health. All children within the affected bubbles will continue their learning through remote access.

“Both the school and county council would like to thank the parents and pupils for their on-going support and understanding."
