A CHRISTMAS party at the Worcester Volunteer Centre provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate the achievements of two volunteers.
Bett Strain was presented with gifts to celebrate being at the centre since 1990 as she had decided to retire on reaching her 80th birthday.
Mrs Strain was a Worcester Wheels office volunteer, taking booking requests and allocating journeys to the volunteer drivers since the scheme began in 1991.
Before that she had been the treasurer of the organisation and helped in the office.
Remarking on her achievements on her retirement, Hedley Burton, Worcester Wheels co-ordinator, said: "Bett is an inspiration to all at Worcester Wheels and she will be sadly missed - especially by all the clients and drivers who are used to hearing her cheerful voice every Monday morning.
"We hope she enjoys her retirement but to expect a phone call next time we have a need to find telephone cover in an emergency."
At the same event, a presentation was made to Vera Keenan to celebrate her 90th birthday on Christmas Eve.
Mrs Keenan still volunteers every week at the centre and in presenting her with gifts from staff, trustees and volunteers, chief officer Sally Ellison said: "Vera is a truly inspirational individual. Her energy, enthusiasm and commitment puts many of us to shame. Vera began volunteering at the centre in 1999 and it is a privilege and honour that she is here today to share this special occasion with everyone at the centre as we all consider ourselves her friend."
