AN EAGLE-EYED Droitwich man who had helped search for missing Amanda Hull is hopeful his chance sighting in Birmingham led to her homecoming.

The 38-year-old Ombersley woman was the subject of a frantic hunt after going missing on Saturday morning before being found “safe and well” on Monday.

Andrew Colclough, 58 and known to his friends as Paul, had a double take in an underpass when walking from New Street railway station towards work at 6.50am on Monday.

A police account on Twitter said Amanda had been found in Birmingham and while the post has since been deleted, Mr Colclough’s believes his chance encounter may have solved the agonising mystery.

“I am working in Birmingham down by Snow Hill station,” said Mr Colclough.

“I get the train in most mornings, head into New Street and walk down to Snow Hill. The route takes me through the subway underneath Queensway on the corner of Livery Street.

“There was a girl as I entered the subway, I was in a bit of a rush and I walked past. I know Amanda but not particularly well.

“What made me look back was that she had riding boots on. I had gone 30-40 yards farther and when I looked back I saw the blonde hair and pony tail.

“She gave me a glance and I thought ‘Is that Amanda?’ but with it raining so much and me heading to work, I shrugged it off.

“There were people going to work, a lot of contractors use the car park nearby and there were probably three or four more people behind Amanda heading in the opposite direction to me.

“When I got to work it was playing on my mind, in a roundabout way I felt guilty. I didn’t really recognise her but I wondered whether I had done the right thing by leaving it.

“I called my wife because the more I thought about it, the more I thought it could not be a coincidence that she had the riding boots on.

“My wife called 101, an officer called back and I think contact was made at 9.30-9.45. By around 12.30 she had been found, apparently in Birmingham.

“People say things happen for a reason and maybe there is a reason there. What are the chances of me seeing her, knowing of her, bumping into her in the middle of Birmingham at that time?”

West Mercia Police said there was no further investigation or police involvement in the matter and offered no further comment.
