POP star Beverley Knight has slammed the racist attack that saw a doorman in Birmingham shoved, spat at and racially abused – allegedly by a woman from Worcester.
A video of the incident at The Figure of Eight pub in Broad Street, Birmingham, on Saturday has been viewed more than 2.6 million times on social media site Twitter and created a backlash against the woman.
West Midlands Police said a 24-year-old woman from Worcester had been detained at 1pm on Monday having attended a police station at the force’s request.
The video showed the woman shoving the bouncer, who had denied her entry or re-entry, before racially abusing him, spitting in his direction and then racially abusing him again.

Wolverhampton-born singer Knight, 48, took to Facebook to highlight her disgust over the incident and the nature of an apology posted on a social media account attributed to the alleged perpetrator.
It has not been verified whether the apology or account it emanated from is genuine.
Mrs Knight said: “So this is what went down outside of a bar in Birmingham, in my beloved West Midlands I’m gutted to report.
“This video, posted by the unbelievably calm and composed security guard Tristan Price, sparked fury on socials everywhere.
“This particularly vile miscreant has now been arrested. Apparently she has also been sacked from her job."
A spokesman for JD Wetherspoon confirmed the woman responsible would be banned and the general manager of the business district said she would be barred from all city centre venues for life.
Regional Wetherspoon manager Heath Curley said: “The woman had been in the pub, but we didn’t like her behaviour so she was asked to leave.
“As she was being escorted outside she knocked over furniture, including chairs. Once outside, the doorman closed the door but the woman began kicking the door and cracked the glass.
“She then subjected him to racial abuse as can be seen on the video.”
He added: “All credit to the doorman, who acted very calmly. He’s a very nice fellow and this was certainly something he shouldn’t be exposed to.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to racist abuse against any of our staff and are treating this incident very, very seriously.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable and this woman will not be welcome in any Wetherspoon pubs in the city centre again.”
