A DELIVERY driver has thanked a woman who has bought him an electronic bike which will enable him to return to work after his bike was stolen.

Tanin Miah, 28, was an Uber Eats delivery rider in Worcester up until his electric bike worth £1,000 was stolen whilst he was collecting an order from McDonald's in The Foregate.

Mr Miah, a foreign exchange student currently studying business and management, says the theft had left him 'extremely depressed' and 'out of work'.

After hearing about Mr Miah's ordeal, Rachel Heath, a civil servant from Worcester, decided to help.

She said: "I read the article on Tanin and I was really upset for him and gutted that people could sink that low for someone who’s trying to earn an honest penny.

“I’m in the position where I have just lost my father so I have got a bit of extra cash and I just wanted to do something for this poor lad.

“His friends rang me and he’s just trying to earn some money while he’s here, and obviously without his bike he lost his job, and I just thought I really wanted to do something for him.

"The story really touched me, I just really felt for him, so I thought I know my mum and dad would be quite happy for him to use the money.”

Rachel has paid for an electric bike costing more than £1,000 for Mr Miah.

Mr Miah thanked Rachel for her kind gesture.

He said:"Rachel has kindly offered to fund an E-Bike for me. I've thanked Rachel for her generosity and kindness. I promised Rachel, I will be involved in great causes in honour of her.

"And I will make a donation to a local charity from the first week of my income with the E-Bike Rachel has funded."

Rachel was not the only person to offer to help after our story about the theft shocked readers, prompting multiple messages of solidarity.

Russell Wright, the owner of J.F Wright & Sons, also saw Tanin’s plight on Facebook and decided to help by offering him a GT Mountain Bike.

Russell said: “I felt sorry for him, if you can’t work then how would he pay his way?"

Mr Miah said: “It was a really happy moment for me."

Mr Miah said he would like to thank the community for their 'overwhelming support'.

Mr Miah has reported the theft to the police who he says are investigating it.
