A FEW weeks ago our weekly Nostalgia pullout section featured some blasts from the past in Ronkswood, and one particular picture, taken in 1989, drew the attention of Jean Wilson.
Jean, as many readers will know, runs the New Hope charity, which supports families who have children with disabilities by providing daily care and activities.
She got in touch to say: “Re the picture you published of the parade of shops in Ronkswood, in particular, Bobetts.
“I now run that shop! I’m interested in its history, you’ve said it was 1989, do you know if they were the first occupants?
“I know it was a post office after it was Bobetts. And then we took it over.” New Hope was founded in 2010 by Jean Wilson, who identified the need for the project within the community when she could not find suitable specialist daytime care for her daughter, Emily.
The children are given the chance to enjoy community facilities of their choice every Saturday throughout the year, and every day of the school holidays. Whilst the children are out and about having fun, their parents and carers are able to receive a well-earned break.
Are you able to help Jean in shedding any light on the history of the shop?
